U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, representing Mississippi, cast her vote in favor of a Republican-driven budget resolution aimed at advancing President Trump's priorities on defense, border security, and energy production. The Senate passed the FY2025 Budget Resolution (S.Con.Res.7) early Friday morning.
The resolution is designed to empower committees to draft legislation supporting these three key areas: securing U.S. borders, strengthening the military, and boosting American energy production. "This resolution is the first step toward providing us our marching orders to begin making our nation stronger, more secure, and more prosperous," stated Hyde-Smith.
Hyde-Smith emphasized that much of implementing President Trump's agenda involves addressing what she described as errors from the previous administration. She remarked on issues such as a neglected military and restricted energy production. "So much of achieving President Trump’s agenda means fixing the monumental and inexcusable mistakes of the previous administration that was dead set on forcing a radical social and environmental agenda on Americans," she said.
The budget resolution was passed by a narrow margin with a 52-48 party-line vote in the Senate. It now awaits reconciliation with a similar measure pending in the House of Representatives (H.Con.Res.14).
Hyde-Smith criticized Democrats during the debate over their approach to spending and defense policies: "The Senate debate on this resolution clearly demonstrated that Democrats are addicted to big spending, a weakened military, and environmental extremism."
