U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) on Thursday contributed to the unanimous committee approval of funding legislation aimed at addressing agricultural and rural development needs in Mississippi.
Hyde-Smith, a member of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee, played a role in drafting the FY2025 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill. This bill has now been approved by the full Senate Appropriations Committee and is one of three FY2025 bills awaiting consideration by the full Senate.
"With limited resources, we’ve crafted a bill that recommends adequate funding for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and other agencies to do their jobs, including those programs that support agriculture production, research, and nutrition programs in Mississippi," Hyde-Smith stated. "I support this Senate bill because it addresses some of the priorities given to me by Mississippians involved in our state’s largest economic driver."
The three measures approved by the committee adhere to statutory caps on discretionary funding as established under the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023.
