U.S. Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith and Roger Wicker celebrated the passage of a resolution in the Senate commemorating the 200th anniversary of Vicksburg, Mississippi. The resolution, approved by unanimous consent, recognizes the city's historical importance since its incorporation on January 29, 1825, as part of its year-long bicentennial celebration.

Senator Hyde-Smith remarked, "Vicksburg’s bicentennial is a moment to reflect on and celebrate the city’s extraordinary legacy, and I’m happy the U.S. Senate has formally recognized the significance of this anniversary." She described Vicksburg as "a beacon of commerce, culture, and faith in Mississippi," acknowledging the contributions of those who shaped the city.

Senator Wicker highlighted Vicksburg's central role in Mississippi and U.S. history, stating, "With world-class historic sites, a vibrant downtown, and cutting-edge technology development, Vicksburg will continue to contribute to both the tourism and innovation ecosystem of Mississippi."

Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. expressed gratitude for the recognition, saying, "This bicentennial is not just about honoring the past—it’s about inspiring the future." He described the city as a symbol of resilience and community over its 200-year history.

The resolution also emphasizes Vicksburg's influence through notable citizens, industries, and cultural events. It designates 2025 as the "Vicksburg Bicentennial" and urges people in the United States to acknowledge the city's accomplishments during its centenary celebration.

The resolution ends by requesting an enrolled copy be transmitted to Vicksburg, signifying the Senate's respect and admiration for the city and its residents.
