A Yazoo City man has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to court documents, on December 11, 2023, Yazoo City Police Officers found Desmond Robinson, 28, a member of the Vice Lords street gang, in possession of a stolen Springfield 9mm handgun during a traffic stop. Robinson had a previous conviction for aggravated assault from the Circuit Court of Yazoo County, which prohibited him from possessing a firearm.

Robinson pled guilty on May 30, 2024, to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee of the Southern District of Mississippi and Special Agent in Charge Robert A. Eikhoff of the Federal Bureau of Investigation made the announcement.

The Yazoo City Police Department and the FBI investigated the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Samuel Goff prosecuted the case.

This case was prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, the centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts. PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them. As part of this strategy, PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
