U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith and her colleagues are taking a stand against a Biden administration rule that targets faith-based organizations. Hyde-Smith, along with U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, introduced a resolution to overturn the rule, which directs nine federal agencies to discriminate against faith-based organizations.
In a statement, Hyde-Smith expressed her concerns, saying, "The Biden administration’s unrelenting attacks on faith-based organizations are unfounded, unwarranted, and offensive. These organizations are often pillars of our communities in offering services, guidance, and support, and we must do all that we can to ensure they can continue their transformative work."
Rubio also spoke out against the rule, highlighting the important role faith-based charities play in providing support to various initiatives. He stated, "Faith-based charities have long been essential partners to the federal government, providing crucial ‘boots on the ground’ support in many initiatives. The Biden Administration’s rule threatens to sideline these charities and force a radical social agenda on them."
The resolution aims to stop the "Partnerships With Faith-Based and Neighborhood Organizations" rule, which imposes burdensome regulations on faith-based recipients of federal funds. This could make it financially and logistically challenging for these organizations to continue carrying out important social service programs.
The resolution, known as S.J.Res.73, has garnered support from other senators, including Tom Cotton, Roger Marshall, Rick Scott, Katie Britt, Josh Hawley, and Marsha Blackburn.
Hyde-Smith has also been active in supporting other legislation aimed at protecting religious freedom, such as the Protecting Religious Freedom for Foster Families Act and the Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act. These efforts underscore her commitment to ensuring that faith-based organizations can continue their vital work without facing discrimination or undue burdens.
