U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) expressed her support for the FY2024 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (T-HUD) Appropriations Bill in a recent statement released on March 3, 2024. Hyde-Smith, who serves as the ranking Republican on the Senate T-HUD Appropriations Subcommittee, commended the bipartisan efforts that led to a final agreement on the bill.

In her statement, Hyde-Smith highlighted the significance of the negotiated agreement, stating, "Hard negotiations have brought us to a point where we can recommend a fiscally-responsible FY2024 T-HUD package that can meet the pressing transportation, housing, and community development needs in our country." She emphasized that the agreement includes modest funding increases while still meeting the safety functions and program needs of the agencies involved. Hyde-Smith, as a conservative, deemed the bill worthy of bipartisan support and enactment into law.

The FY2024 T-HUD agreement was reached through negotiations with House appropriators to reconcile differences between the Senate-passed bill and the House T-HUD bill. Hyde-Smith underscored that the agreement adheres to the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, which aimed to reduce the budget deficit by approximately $1.5 trillion over the next decade.
