69 percent of applicants to Jackson State University were admitted for fall 2018

At Jackson State University, 74 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 64 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in Jackson enrolled 7,250 students in fall 2018, including 5,331 in undergraduate and 1,919 in graduate programs, data shows. 8.5 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

37 percent of undergraduates are residents of Mississippi, and 62 percent are residents of other states. 1 percent are citizens of foreign countries.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as Black or African American (92 percent) and white (3 percent).

The school admitted 69 percent of the 7,680 students who applied for fall 2018. Of those who were admitted, 16 percent enrolled.
