Jackson State University senior first baseman Wilbert Perez has been named to the Preseason First Team All-Conference by the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The announcement was made Tuesday by SWAC coaches.
Perez ended the 2025 season with a batting average of .324 over 49 games. He recorded 60 hits in 185 at-bats, including 12 doubles, one triple, and eight home runs. His on-base percentage was .415 and his slugging percentage stood at .530, resulting in a .945 OPS. Perez also scored 32 runs, had 48 RBIs, walked 19 times, was hit by pitches on 11 occasions, and stole five bases.
In addition to Perez’s individual recognition, Jackson State was selected to finish fifth in the conference preseason poll with a total of 141 points. Teams ranked ahead of Jackson State include defending champion Bethune-Cookman (209 points), Florida A&M (185), Alabama State (178), and Grambling State (143).
The Tigers are scheduled to start their season on Friday, February 13 at the MLB HBCU Power Series hosted at Trustmark Park.
