U.S. Senators Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith, along with U.S. Representatives Bennie Thompson, Trent Kelly, Michael Guest, and Mike Ezell, have expressed their approval of President Trump’s decision to grant a major disaster declaration for Mississippi. This declaration comes in response to severe weather and tornadoes that impacted the state on March 14-15, 2025.
The approval facilitates the release of federal resources aimed at aiding recovery efforts across the affected regions in Mississippi. Specifically, eleven counties have been approved for Individual Assistance while seventeen counties will receive Public Assistance.
In a joint statement, the Mississippi congressional delegation stated: “Mississippi needs this financial relief to recover from these devastating natural disasters. The Mississippi congressional delegation stands united in ensuring our communities receive the support they need to rebuild. We thank President Trump for approving the request for assistance, and we remain committed to supporting our constituents as they recover.”
Prior to this decision, members of the delegation had supported Governor Tate Reeves’ request by signing a letter addressed to President Trump advocating for a major disaster declaration.
