Enrollment by Ethnicity: Black was most represented background in Hinds County School District schools in 2021-22 school year

Black students made up 88.1% of the 5,140 students enrolled in Hinds County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a four% decrease from the previous school year.

Terry High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 1,189 students.

A snapshot of Hinds County School District schools showed 88.1% of students were Black, 7.8% were white, 1.2% were Hispanic, and 0.6% multiracial.

Hinds County School District roughly covers nine schools within Hinds County and has a main office in Terry.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
