Black or African American had the largest percent of student body in Hinds County schools in 2020-2021 school year

Of the 32,736 students enrolled in Hinds County schools in 2020-2021, 87.2% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Hinds County students.

This is a 0.3% increase over the previous school year.

Murrah High School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Hinds County schools showed 87.2% students were Black or African American, 7.7% were White, 1.2% were Hispanic or Latino, 0.9% were Asian and 0.5% were Two or More Races.

There are 71 schools in Hinds County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
