March 24, 2023 (Jackson, Miss.) - Belhaven University’s 2023 Spring Dance Concert will feature choreography by guest artists and dance faculty. Styles will include classical ballet, contemporary ballet, and modern dance.
There will be an exciting collaboration with Ballet 5:8, a Chicago-based professional ballet company. Artistic Director of Ballet 5:8 Julianna Rubio Slager will present "Look to the East," featuring ten Belhaven dance students and four Ballet 5:8 company members.
Another guest artist, Paiter van Yperen, has choreographed "The Wait of Glory" for the Spring Dance Concert. Yperen is a Dallas-based choreographer and performer who is currently working with Open Sky Arts Collective.
Belhaven’s Associate Professor of Dance Clara Grace Watts, Adjunct Instructor of Dance Emma Salinas, and Adjunct Professor of Dance Cynthia Newland also created original choreography for the concert.Associate Professor of Dance Samantha Shelton will showcase her"Sleeping Beauty, Jewels," with choreography by Marius Petipa.
The performance will be in the Bitsy Irby Visual Arts and Dance Center Studio and dates will include:
Thursday, March 30 at 7 p.m.
Friday, March 31 at 7 p.m.
Saturday, April 1 at 7 p.m.
General admission is $10 and $5 for seniors and non-Belhaven University students. Admission is free for all Belhaven faculty, students, and immediate family. Email dancetickets@belhaven.edu to reserve tickets. Doors open at 6:30 on all nights.
