Ellie Jones, Hunter Estes Named C Spire Athletes of the Week

Ellie Jones of the Belhaven Softball team and Hunter Estes of the Belhaven Baseball team have been named the C Spire Athletes of the Week following their performances over the past week.

Jones had a big day at the plate in Belhaven's Riverside Rivalry sweep over Millsaps on Saturday. In Game 1 the Blazers' first baseman hit a two-run homer in the first inning to jumpstart the Belhaven offense to a 10-run outing. Jones picked up where she left off with an RBI double in the first inning of Game 2. On the day, Jones finished 3-4 with a home run, a double, and four RBIs.

Estes put together a strong week for the Blazers in five games. The Purvis, Miss. native went 7-19 (.368) with 4 RBIs, a walk, a stolen base, and five runs scored. Estes had a 3-5 night at the dish in Belhaven's 21-17 victory over Alma on Monday night.

Jones and the Blazers return to action Wednesday, March 1st to take on No. 18 Birmingham-Southern. First pitch in Birmingham is set for 4 PM.

Estes and his teammates will look to win their third straight on Tuesday, March 7th against Millsaps in Game 2 of the Cowboy Maloney Series. The Blazers are looking to clinch the season series after taking the first game 4-3 over the Majors. First pitch from Trustmark Park is scheduled at 6 PM.
