Jackson State secures 67-63 win against UAPB after trailing at the half

The Jackson State men's basketball team went into halftime trailing UAPB 34-26, but rallied from the deficit to take down the Golden Lions 67-63 on the road Thursday.

The Tigers (12-18, 11-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Chase Adams, who had 18 points. Romelle Mansel added a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Ken Evans chipped in as well with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Led by Mansel's five offensive rebounds, Jackson State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in 21 second chance points.

Jackson State's defense held UAPB to only 39.3 percent shooting from the field. The Golden Lions did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with nine offensive rebounds and managed six second chance points.

How It Happened

After falling behind 3-2, Jackson State went on a 6-0 run with 18:15 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Evans, to take an 8-3 lead. The Tigers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 34-26.

After intermission, Jackson State managed to gain control and had a 53-51 lead before going on a 7-0 run to grow the lead to 60-51 with 3:40 to go in the contest. The Golden Lions narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Tigers still held on for the 67-63 win. Jackson State made the most of five offensive rebounds to tack on 16 second chance points out of 41 total in the period.
