Blazers Finish Off Non-Conference Play with Win at MUW

The Belhaven Men's Basketball team grabbed a 67-61 win over MUW on Tuesday in their final non-conference game of the 2022-23 regular season. The Blazers completed the two-game season sweep of the Owls as their improved to 13-10 on the year.

In the early going it was all MUW as the hosts jumped out to an quick lead on the Blazers. Inside the first two minutes of the contest MUW opened up an 8-0 lead on the Blazers and pushed their advantage out to a 16-3 lead as the game approached the first media timeout.

The Blazers continued to work from behind as the first half wore on but methodically cut into the hosts' early lead. With 9:12 remaining in the first half the Blazers trailed MUW 28-17 but an impressive 13-2 run over the rest of the half meant Belhaven had worked the game back tied as the teams headed into the break.

Belhaven's second half play was much more consistent as the Blazers got the first bucket out of the break and subsequently their first lead in the game. While the two teams traded baskets in the early part of the second half Belhaven regained the lead with 9:26 to go and never looked back. In the final nine and a half minutes of the second half the Blazers were once again able to stifle the MUW offense and put away the hosts for an impressive road win in the penultimate game of the year.

The Blazers had a balanced attack on offense in the game with Luke Couch's 19 points leading the way. Judah Jordan had 13 points while Donovan Givens finished with 11 points to round out the Blazers in double figures. Neal Terry finished the game with 8 points and 5 blocks which moves him into 2nd for the Blazers' in single-season blocks, just 7 off Bobby Johnson's record set in 2006-07.

Following the win the Blazers will prepare for their final game of the regular season as they host Berea College for Senior Day on Saturday. Tip off is set for 4 PM.
