Belhaven Tennis Falls to LeTourneau in Season Opener

The Belhaven Tennis teams fell in their season opening matches to LeTourneau on Saturday despite both teams putting up multiple individual and doubles wins on the day.

WOMEN'S

The Women fell to their former conference foe 6-3 on Saturday but saw a couple of players pick up their first individual wins of the year. Judith Mills and Evey Moore were able to claim victory in their first doubles match of the campaign as the Blazers' top duo took down their LeTourneau counterparts 9-7. 

Mills then also claimed an win in her individual match on Saturday as she took down the YellowJackets #1 in two sets (6-0, 6-3). Asia Robinson joined Mills as the other winner among the Belhaven individuals as she won the #5 matchup in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 1-0).

MEN'S 

On the Men's side of the opening matches the Blazers were just slightly edged by LeTourneau 5-4 overall. The Blazers came up empty-handed in doubles competition but took four of the six match ups in singles competition. Gaspar Meda made a strong showing in his first singles match of the year as he took the #1 matchup in two sets (6-4, 6-3). Bryce Livingston also was able to grab a singles' win as he battled in the #3 matchup for a two set victory (7-6, 6-3).

In the #4 pairing Mark Matviiev grabbed the victory with a two set win over his LeTourneau counterpart (6-4, 6-1). Rounding out the successful day for the Blazers was Jason Ball who won his singles match in two sets (6-1, 7-5). 

The Belhaven Men's and Women's Tennis teams will resume action in a couple of weeks when they travel to Birmingham, AL to take on Birmingham-Southern on Saturday, February 18th. The matches are slated to start at 10 AM.
