Defensive effort leads Jackson State past Bethune-Cookman 70-66
The Jackson State men's basketball team held Bethune-Cookman to just 20 percent from beyond the arc in a 5-for-25 shooting performance on the way to a 70-66 victory over the Wildcats at home Saturday.
The Tigers (5-14, 4-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Ken Evans, who had 18 points.
Chase Adams added 13 points, five assists and three steals and Trace Young helped out with 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
The Jackson State offense was impressive from deep, knocking down eight threes on 22 attempts.
Adams hit two treys for the Tigers in the contest.
Jackson State's defense held Bethune-Cookman to only 36.4 percent shooting from the field, including 20 percent from beyond the arc.
How It Happened
After falling behind 4-3, Jackson State went on a 7-0 run with 17:27 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Zeke Cook, to take a 10-4 lead.
The Tigers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 31-27 advantage.
Bethune-Cookman proceeded to take a 32-31 lead before Jackson State went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Evans' three, to seize a 39-32 lead with 17:15 to go in the contest.
The Wildcats narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Tigers still held on for the 70-66 win.
Jackson State capitalized on seven Bethune-Cookman turnovers in the period, collecting 13 points off those turnovers.
