Performance To Showcase New Choreography From Guest Artists

Belhaven University’s Fall Dance Concert 2022 will showcase new choreography by dance faculty and guest artists.

Presented by the Belhaven University Dance Ensemble and members of DOXA, this performance will showcase styles that include classical and contemporary ballet, jazz, and modern dance.

The concert includes an excerpt of Act II from “Giselle,” a romantic ballet. It was originally choreographed by Jules Perrot and Jean Coralli, and later by Marius Petipa. “Giselle” was restaged at Belhaven by Professor of Dance Ravenna Tucker Wagnon.

The Fall Dance Concert 2022 also features "Ode to Opus Jazz (Reprise)," choreographed by Minneapolis-based guest artist Jolene Konkel. This jazz dance work was inspired by the legacy of renowned choreographer Jerome Robins. Konkel said, "This work calls on our collective humanity to come together, to celebrate and encourage one another, and walk through it all with dignity and grace."

Audience members at the Fall Dance Concert will also enjoy new choreography by Belhaven dance faculty members Cynthia A. Newland, Erin Scheiwe Rockwell, and Samantha Shelton.

Chair and Professor of Dance Krista Bower notes, “The 2022 Fall Dance Concert features ballet and modern/contemporary dance works which highlight the strength, athleticism, and artistry of Belhaven University’s Dance Ensemble and members of DOXA. Audiences will enjoy an inspiring evening of diverse choreography and captivating performances.”

The Fall Dance Concert 2022 will be in the Bitsy Irby Visual Arts and Dance Center Studio and dates include:
