Starkville rallies past Germantown to claim boys Class 7A basketball title

Starkville High School secured the 2026 Boys Class 7A Basketball Championship with a 40-36 win over Germantown High School on March 6, 2026. The game took place as part of the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) tournament.

Germantown led for much of the contest, holding a 7-6 advantage after the first quarter and extending their lead to 22-15 at halftime. Starkville narrowed the gap in the third quarter, outscoring Germantown 14-10. The key moment came late in the third when Starkville reduced a nine-point deficit to just three points, thanks to consecutive three-pointers from Jerwan Mccarter, Terrell Warren Jr., and Tyreq Hendrix.

Starkville tied the game early in the fourth quarter with baskets from Ladanuel Jordan and Andricus Howard. Jordan then scored again with just over five minutes remaining, giving Starkville a lead they would not relinquish.

Jerwan Mccarter led Starkville with 10 points. Ladanuel Jordan contributed eight points, while Tyreq Hendrix added six. Kobe Hendrix finished with five points and three rebounds. As a team, Starkville made six of thirteen attempts from beyond the arc and outrebounded Germantown by a margin of 26 to 21.

For Germantown, Samuel Funches IV was the top scorer with twelve points and six free throws made. Alfred Stokes added seven points.

Both teams recorded ten turnovers each during the match.
