U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, addressed the Air Force Association Chapter Meeting in Meridian, Mississippi. His speech focused on military readiness and ongoing projects related to the U.S. Air Force’s KC-46 basing decision process.
Senator Wicker highlighted his position as the first Mississippian Chairman of the Armed Services Committee since John C. Stennis. He emphasized the need for defense against what he termed “the axis of aggressors” comprising China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran. “I absolutely stand with President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu that our policy should firmly be: Iran never gets a nuclear weapon,” Wicker stated.
Regarding the KC-46 project, Wicker detailed financial allocations for infrastructure improvements at Key Field in Meridian, citing past innovations in air refueling originating from the area. “We invented air refueling in Meridian, Mississippi,” he remarked while advocating for basing decisions favorable to Meridian.
Wicker also discussed legislation known as the One Big Beautiful Bill which includes funding for national defense initiatives like the Golden Dome project. He recounted a conversation with Donald J. Trump about continental missile defense technology and underscored its necessity given current threats from North Korea, China, and Russia.
The senator concluded by stressing that strong national defense is crucial to preventing war: “There has never been a war started against a country because that country was too strong.”
