U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, addressed remarks made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing. Wicker highlighted the potential for President Trump to contribute to a lasting peace in Ukraine.

Chairman Wicker emphasized the importance of allowing the peace process to unfold, suggesting lawmakers should “take a deep breath.” He shared President Zelenskyy’s statement which reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to achieving peace and expressed readiness to negotiate under President Trump’s leadership.

President Zelenskyy stated, “None of us wants an endless war. Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer.” He outlined initial steps towards peace, including prisoner releases and truces on missile and drone use if Russia reciprocates.

Zelenskyy acknowledged America’s support in maintaining Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence, noting a pivotal moment when President Trump provided Javelins. He expressed disappointment over recent meetings but stressed a desire for constructive future cooperation.

The Ukrainian president also mentioned readiness to sign agreements on minerals and security as steps toward greater security guarantees. In response, Senator Wicker reminded that President Trump supports Ukraine’s efforts for security guarantees essential for lasting peace.

Wicker concluded with hope that positive developments from Zelenskyy’s statement would materialize swiftly, drawing parallels between international diplomacy and personal disputes resolved amicably.
