U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith has paid tribute to Mississippi’s law enforcement officers as part of the 2025 National Police Week. In her statement, which will be included in the Congressional Record, Hyde-Smith honored four officers from Mississippi who have been added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The fallen officers recognized by Hyde-Smith are George County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy T. Malone, Summit Police Department Patrolman Troy L. Floyd, Mississippi Department of Public Safety liaison Michael E. Griffin, and George County Sheriff’s Office narcotics agent Robert D. Daffin Jr.
Hyde-Smith stated, “This is a time of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude – a moment to recognize not only those fallen heroes but also the families, friends, and loved ones who share in their sacrifice and carry the weight of their loss.”
She emphasized the importance of supporting law enforcement by ensuring they have necessary resources and fostering respect for their service. “Remembrance must also inspire action,” she continued. “Supporting law enforcement means ensuring our officers have the tools, resources, support, and safety that they deserve on and off duty.”
Hyde-Smith reiterated her commitment to supporting those in uniform and their families: “Their service deserves not only our gratitude but also our unwavering support.”
Additionally, Hyde-Smith will co-sponsor a Senate Resolution designating May 11-17, 2025 as National Police Week. The resolution will be introduced by U.S. Senator Charles Grassley.
