North Dakota defeats JSU Tigers women’s soccer team 5–0 in home opener

The Jackson State women’s soccer team lost 5–0 to North Dakota in its home opener on Friday at the JSU Soccer Field. North Dakota, which remains undefeated this season, scored three goals in the first 27 minutes of play.

Amelia Loeffler put North Dakota ahead in the 15th minute with a goal from a corner kick. Yui Fujii added another goal four minutes later, and Brynn Belcher scored in the 27th minute to give the Fighting Hawks a commanding lead.

Jackson State regrouped after halftime and created several opportunities, including a penalty kick by Caylah Williams in the 59th minute that was saved by North Dakota goalkeeper Grace Miller. In the second half, Carly Brimhall scored for North Dakota in the 60th minute, followed by Natalie Enderle’s goal in the 80th minute. Both second-half goals were assisted by Cora Ellermann.

Goalkeeper Valentina Goodloe played most of the match for Jackson State, making five saves against 17 shots before being replaced by Taylor Osborn. Williams had two shots on goal and earned the penalty kick opportunity. Teammates Sarah Portis, Malayah Nuestro, and Alayla Jackson also challenged the opposing goalkeeper.

Jackson State finished with nine total shots and six on target but was unable to score. North Dakota had five different players—Loeffler, Fujii, Belcher, Brimhall, and Enderle—each record a goal. Ellermann provided two assists in the second half. Goalkeeper Grace Miller made six saves for North Dakota and shared a shutout with Sydney Bakritzes during the final minutes.

Both teams committed 14 fouls each during the match. North Dakota led in total shots (19) and corners (5), while Jackson State managed one corner kick.

Jackson State will close out non-conference play at Southern Miss on Wednesday with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
