More than 140 members of Congress have called on President Trump to reinstate and expand pro-life policies as he begins his new administration. This initiative is led by U.S. Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) and James Lankford (R-Okla.), along with U.S. Representatives Chris Smith (R-N.J.) and Robert Aderholt (R-Ala.). The letter, sent to the president on Tuesday, was signed by 36 Senators and 108 Representatives.
The letter urges a return to policies that restrict taxpayer funding for abortion both domestically and internationally. It also calls for the reinstatement of anti-discrimination conscience policies, pardoning peaceful protesters, and investigating potential illegal late-term abortions.
“Over the last four years, President Biden, Vice President Harris, and their administration systematically weaponized the government against the unborn,” stated the lawmakers in their letter. “We look forward to the reinstatement of Trump policies on life in the first days of your second term.”
The legislators are advocating for an examination of federal programs aimed at supporting pregnant women and parents through housing, childcare, transportation, addiction recovery, and healthcare services.
“We are grateful that the Trump administration can bring an end to the weaponization of the United States government against pro-life Americans,” they continued. “We believe there is a better way forward for our Republic.”
In addition to Hyde-Smith and Lankford’s leadership roles in this effort, other notable signatories include U.S. Senators Steve Daines (R-Mont.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), among others.
The letter has received endorsements from several organizations including Americans United for Life, Family Research Council, March for Life Action, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, Students for Life Action, among others.
