Jackson State track teams secure five wins at MC Spring Classic

The Jackson State University men’s and women’s track and field teams began their outdoor season at the Mississippi College Spring Classic in Clinton, Mississippi. Both teams finished third overall, with athletes achieving five first-place finishes and several personal bests.

Freshman Malayna Mallory led the women’s team by winning both the discus and hammer throw events, recording distances of 43.23 meters and 49.48 meters, respectively. On the men’s side, Kaiden Berry secured first place in the shot put with a distance of 16.45 meters.

Kayla Williams earned her first career victory in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.43 seconds. Rickey Green III also took first place in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.57 seconds.

Several Tigers set new personal records during the meet. Jaden Dix ran a personal best of 21.46 seconds in the 200-meter dash, which was also the second-fastest time among all competitors at the event. Jordin Smith achieved a personal best of 23.37 seconds in the same race. Callie Callicut set a new mark in the women’s 400 meters with a time of 58.17 seconds, while Duncan Koima posted a personal best of 15:39.71 in the men’s 5,000 meters.

Jackson State’s next competition will be at the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette on March 20-21 after taking a week off from competition.
