The Jackson State University softball team secured two more victories at the River City Classic in Vicksburg, Mississippi, on Saturday. The Tigers defeated Dallas Christian and then Alcorn State, extending their unbeaten start to the season.

In their game against Alcorn State, Jackson State established a 4-2 lead in the first inning and maintained control throughout, finishing with a 15-5 win at Key City Park. Madison McDowell earned her first win of the season as a pitcher for JSU, throwing three innings and allowing two earned runs on one hit while striking out two batters. B. Morris also contributed from the mound, pitching 1.1 innings without giving up a hit and recording two strikeouts.

At the plate, Jace Jackson led the Tigers by going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs. Summer Tyes added to the offense with a home run and an RBI in her only official at-bat. Courtney Little provided further support by collecting two doubles among her two hits in three appearances and driving in one run.

After falling behind 2-0 early, JSU responded with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jhordan Dyer contributed with an RBI groundout during that rally. The Tigers continued their offensive momentum into the second inning when Tyes hit a solo home run as part of another four-run frame.

Jackson State’s biggest output came in the third inning when they scored seven runs to extend their lead to 15-2. Dyer added another RBI single during this stretch. Although Alcorn State managed three runs before game’s end, JSU maintained its advantage for a comfortable victory.

“The Tigers power output was led by Little, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame,” according to information released by Jackson State University Athletics staff. “Jackson State’s highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed seven runs across.”

Statistically, Jackson State out-hit Alcorn State 11 to 2 and succeeded on five stolen base attempts as a team—two of which were credited to Jace Jackson individually. The Tigers were efficient with runners in scoring position, posting an .471 average (8-for-17) and collected two hits with bases loaded opportunities.

Alcorn State’s offense was highlighted by Aceve’s solo home run among his one hit in three trips to bat. Oliso pitched for Alcorn State over 2.1 innings but allowed seven runs during his outing.
