Jackson State prepares for SWAC indoor track and field championship

Jackson State University’s track and field teams are set to compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Indoor Championship, which will take place on February 21-22 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.

Last season, Jackson State’s men’s team finished second overall, narrowly missing out on the championship title to Texas Southern. The women’s team placed ninth. Several medalists from last year’s competition will return, including Dominic Turner, Robert Salhab III, and Godfrey Kimutai. In total, Jackson State athletes secured seven medals during the previous SWAC championship, with four of those being gold.

Throughout this season, Jackson State athletes have achieved notable victories in several events. These include wins in the women’s 800 meters by Kaylin Jackson, women’s shot put by Malayna Mallory, women’s triple jump by Nedgine Morancy, men’s 60-meter hurdles by Rickey Green III, men’s shot put by Dalon Harris and Kaiden Berry, and men’s 200 meters by Sedgwrick Pitts Jr.
