U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith has expressed her approval for the expedited assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to American farmers, a move facilitated by President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins. The aid comes as part of a $10 billion package aimed at alleviating financial difficulties faced by agricultural producers due to high input costs and low commodity prices.

The application process for this financial assistance was announced on National Agriculture Day, with the USDA tasked with distributing funds within 90 days of the law’s enactment last December. Hyde-Smith, who played a significant role in passing this legislation, emphasized its importance for Mississippi farmers.

“President Trump and Secretary Rollins clearly understand the very real financial challenges faced by American producers over the past two years,” said Hyde-Smith. She highlighted that these challenges are expected to continue into 2025 and praised the swift implementation of this aid program.

Hyde-Smith urged Mississippi producers to apply for this funding through the Emergency Commodity Assistance Program administered by the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA). The application process opens on March 19, 2025, with submissions due by August 15, 2025.

In addition to this package, Congress approved over $20 billion under the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act for producers affected by weather-related losses in 2023 and 2024. This follows certification from both USDA and FEMA regarding multiple natural disasters impacting Mississippi during that period.
