U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith from Mississippi is urging residents to prepare for “National Warrior Call Day” on November 17, 2024. This initiative encourages engagement with veterans and active servicemembers to address mental health risks they face after serving the nation.

Hyde-Smith is a cosponsor of the National Warrior Call Day Resolution (S.Res.838), which the Senate approved recently. She emphasized, “As Americans, it’s our patriotic duty to honor and stand by those who stood for us. The National Warrior Call Day resolution is a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in supporting veterans and those in the Armed Forces.”

The resolution addresses rising suicide rates among veterans and military personnel, advocating outreach to combat isolation and prevent self-harm. It also calls for more research into traumatic brain injuries and their impact on mental health challenges faced by servicemembers.

Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Tom Cotton introduced the resolution to promote National Warrior Call Day, reinforcing national support for servicemembers. Shaheen stated, “We have a responsibility to support the brave men and women who have served this nation that extends well beyond their time in the line of duty.” Cotton added, “Americans can never fully pay back those who serve in defense of America.”

Resources for suicide prevention among veterans and active duty service members are available online.
