U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith has expressed criticism towards the Biden-Harris administration’s recent study on American liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. The study, released by the U.S. Department of Energy, is part of an initiative to potentially pause or halt LNG exports, a significant portion of which are transported through the Gulf of Mexico.
Hyde-Smith, who serves on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, has been a vocal opponent of this policy direction. She stated, “The Biden administration’s reckless energy policies compromise our national security, drive up costs for hardworking Americans, and fuel global emissions.”
She further criticized the administration’s approach by saying, “The release of this LNG export study is just the latest example of their misguided energy agenda that puts our national security at risk while making energy unaffordable across the nation.” Hyde-Smith reaffirmed her commitment to restoring American energy security and independence under former President Trump’s leadership.
In legislative efforts earlier this year, Hyde-Smith supported the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2025 (S.4753). This bill aimed to increase offshore oil and gas lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico and end restrictions on LNG exports imposed by the current administration. However, attempts to pass this legislation before Congress adjourned were unsuccessful.
