U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) announced that a funding bill focusing on agriculture and rural development has gained unanimous approval from the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee. The FY2026 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill now moves to the full Senate for consideration.
Hyde-Smith emphasized the significance of the bill, highlighting its potential impact on Mississippi’s agricultural production, research, rural communities, and nutrition programs. She stated: “I’m grateful that this agriculture appropriations bill is moving forward because of the Majority Leader’s intention to allow the Senate to take up and debate it. I hope this return to regular order will mean we can enact a bill that will support agricultural production, research, rural communities, and nutrition programs in Mississippi.”
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) has committed to bringing appropriations bills to the floor for debate. Hyde-Smith expressed optimism about passing a fiscally responsible measure addressing priorities outlined by Mississippians involved in agriculture.
The committee-passed measure includes several provisions pertinent to Mississippi’s needs in these sectors.
