Holmes County Central wins overtime thriller against Brookhaven in MHSAA girls basketball semifinals

Holmes County Central High School advanced to the finals of the 2026 MHSAA Basketball Tournament after defeating Brookhaven High School 61-55 in overtime on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

The game began with Brookhaven leading by one point at the end of the first quarter. Holmes County Central responded with a strong second quarter, outscoring Brookhaven 28-10 and entering halftime ahead 38-21. Despite this lead, Brookhaven mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, winning it 19-6 and forcing overtime with the score tied at 55. In overtime, Holmes County Central outscored Brookhaven 8-2 to secure the win.

Al’themeka Giles led Holmes County Central with 15 points on efficient shooting. A’jah Davis contributed 13 points and nine rebounds, while Rh’otasia Greer added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Brookhaven’s top scorer was Kema Roberts with 14 points and eight rebounds. Aubrey Dampier scored 11 points, and Camryn Mcdonald finished with nine points including two three-pointers.

The semifinal matchup was part of the ongoing Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) tournament schedule for girls basketball teams across Class 5A.
