East Union Attendance Center won the 2026 Girls Class 2A Basketball Championship with a 57-38 victory over New Site High School on Saturday. The game, held as part of the MHSAA Basketball Tournament, saw East Union overcome a halftime deficit before taking control in the second half.
East Union started strong in the first quarter, building a lead with inside scoring from Lily Johnson and a steal-and-score by Josie Mae Bell. However, New Site responded with consecutive three-pointers from Chloe Moreland and Bella Green to tie the score at 13. New Site continued their momentum and led 24-22 at halftime.
The third quarter marked a turning point. Bell tied the game at the free-throw line, and Marley Clayton hit a three-pointer to give East Union the lead. Clayton scored twice more in the period, while Caroline Sherwood added another three-pointer. By the end of the third quarter, East Union had established a 39-30 advantage.
In the fourth quarter, East Union maintained its lead as Clayton opened with another three-pointer and Johnson contributed two baskets inside. Bell was effective at the free-throw line late in the game, making six free throws in the final minutes to secure the win for East Union.
Clayton led all scorers with 17 points for East Union. Johnson recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Bell added 12 points. For New Site, Brown and Green each scored 10 points.
The championship concluded on March 7, 2026.
