U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi has addressed speculation regarding her potential nomination as Secretary of Agriculture under President-elect Donald Trump. In a statement released today, Hyde-Smith expressed gratitude for being considered but affirmed her intention to continue serving in the Senate.

Hyde-Smith stated, “It’s an honor to be mentioned as a potential nominee for Secretary of Agriculture, but my plans are to remain in the Senate and continue to deliver for the people of Mississippi.” She highlighted her background as a former state agriculture commissioner and her current committee roles, emphasizing her commitment to supporting the agricultural community’s growth and success.

The senator also reiterated her support for President Trump, stating that she believes she can best serve him and the nation’s farmers and ranchers through her work in the Senate. Hyde-Smith emphasized the importance of working towards a new farm bill and addressing other agricultural and economic issues.

Concluding her statement, Hyde-Smith reaffirmed her intention to seek re-election in 2026, saying, “As I have stated previously, I plan to seek re-election in 2026.”
