U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith has been appointed as the chair of the Senate Agriculture’s Subcommittee on Commodities, Derivatives, Risk Management and Trade for the 119th Congress. This subcommittee is part of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee and is responsible for overseeing commodity programs, derivatives and digital assets, crop insurance, and agricultural trade.
This marks Hyde-Smith’s second subcommittee chairmanship in the current Congress. She expressed her commitment to addressing economic challenges faced by the agriculture sector and rural America. “I look forward to this new opportunity to serve our farmers, ranchers, and rural communities. The agriculture sector and rural America are facing significant economic challenges, and it’s crucial that we work diligently to finally pass a new Farm Bill that will help them continue to lead globally,” Hyde-Smith stated.
Hyde-Smith has a background as the former Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce. In addition to her role in agriculture-related committees, she also serves on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
In January, Hyde-Smith was named chair of the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee by the Senate Committee on Appropriations. She was also added to the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee.
