Mississippi College will host its annual Choctaw Sports Night on April 13, bringing together student-athletes, coaches, trainers, cheerleaders, and staff to celebrate achievements in the university’s athletic programs.
The event recognizes the efforts and successes of those involved in MC Athletics. Organizers say it serves as an opportunity for the community to acknowledge both individual and team accomplishments from the past year.
Kenny Bizot, MC Athletic Director, said, “This has been a great event for our entire athletic department. It is an opportunity to celebrate our student-athletes and recognize the accomplishments of the year.” The banquet is sponsored by MC Athletics along with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the M Club. It will feature a highlight reel of all Choctaw teams and present awards to outstanding athletes.
Maguire Miskelly, one of the organizers and a junior kinesiology major from New Albany who plays softball at MC, said that Choctaw Sports Night reflects “the culture we are building at MC – one that values excellence, service and using our platform for a greater purpose.” She added that it is more than just about awards; it also highlights shared commitment to excellence and faith within their community. Miskelly referenced Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord,” noting this mindset shapes both competition and daily life at Mississippi College.
This year’s theme—”Through the Ages”—coincides with Mississippi College’s bicentennial celebration. Miskelly explained that it honors those who have contributed throughout history while recognizing ongoing guidance in Choctaw Athletics’ future. Guest speakers Karly Ivy from women’s basketball and Christian Balcer from cross country were chosen for their character and impact on others. Ivy plans to share her personal faith journey during her speech: “I want athletes to feel empowered to pursue their goals… You can push through hard times and chase your passions.”
Miskelly hopes attendees leave encouraged by what they witness at Choctaw Sports Night: “I hope they leave encouraged and reminded that what we do has a greater purpose beyond the game.”
