Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith from Mississippi expressed her support for a resolution condemning campus antisemitism and cosponsored the 'No Bailouts for Campus Criminals Act'. The resolution, S.Res.670, introduced by Senator Tim Scott from South Carolina, aims to address the escalating antisemitism on U.S. college campuses and ensure the protection of Jewish students under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.

Hyde-Smith emphasized, "Everyone has a right to express their opinion in this country, but not when it turns to speech that foments hate and violence. It’s shameful that the permissive policies at colleges and universities have fueled antisemitism, violence, and intimidation. It’s simply unacceptable."

Senator Scott also raised concerns about the rising antisemitism, stating, "Antisemitism is rearing its ugly head at college campuses across our nation. Jewish students are being targeted with violence and harassment, and the university presidents and administrators, who should be defending them, are caving to the radical mob and allowing chaos to spread."

In addition to supporting the resolution, Hyde-Smith cosponsored the No Bailouts for Campus Criminals Act introduced by Senator Tom Cotton from Arkansas. Hyde-Smith criticized the potential implications of the Biden student loan forgiveness scheme, particularly in connection with individuals involved in campus protests. She stated, “The Biden student loan forgiveness scheme is already audacious, but allowing pro-Hamas and other student lawbreakers to benefit would be an outrage for taxpayers."

Senator Cotton echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing, “Americans who never went to college or responsibly paid off their debts shouldn’t have to pay off other people’s student loans. They especially shouldn’t have to pay off the loans of Hamas sympathizers shutting down and defacing campuses.”

Hyde-Smith had previously advocated for the protection of Jewish students in K-12 schools through enforcing Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. Furthermore, she has shown opposition to the Biden student loan forgiveness program by cosponsoring a resolution of disapproval.

Senator Hyde-Smith's actions reflect a commitment to addressing antisemitism on college campuses and ensuring accountability for those who perpetrate acts of hate and violence.
